Zoho has launched Zoho Payroll for UK employers, handling PAYE, National Insurance and Real Time Information submissions to HMRC. It gives UK finance and HR teams a payroll tool built around current statutory pay rules and connected to expenses and accounting, as compliance changes add to routine workload.
Zoho is a privately held global technology group. Zoho Payroll supports weekly, fortnightly and monthly pay runs, payslips, BACS salary files and pay-run approvals.
The platform links with Zoho Expense, so approved expense claims are reimbursed alongside salaries. It also integrates with Zoho Books, which is HMRC-recognised and MTD-compliant, and automatically posts payroll journals for each pay run. Integration with Zoho People to sync employee records will follow.
Built-in AI includes Ask Zia, which payroll teams can use to complete tasks, generate forecasts and identify trends through plain-language prompts. It can also answer employees’ payroll questions.
The launch coincides with regulatory change. OnRec reported that Statutory Sick Pay has been payable from the first day of sickness since April 2026, and that benefits in kind are expected to be taxed through payroll each pay period from April 2027 rather than reported on P11D forms.
The efficiency gap is documented. Enterprise Times reported that the Finity UK Payroll Efficiency Report 2026 found 77 per cent of payroll professionals lose time every week to inefficient processes and duplicated effort, and 68 per cent face regular delays in payroll delivery, reconciliation or reporting.
Enterprise Times also noted that UK payroll is already crowded with established specialists and accounting-platform providers, so compliance alone will not differentiate a new entrant.
For the sector, connecting payroll, expenses and accounting in one workflow signals that vendors are competing on how much reconciliation work they remove between systems, not only on statutory coverage.
