Valero Energy Corporation, a major global producer of petroleum-based and low-carbon fuels, reported a net income of $1.1 billion for Q3 2025, up sharply from $364 million in the same period last year. Revenues were $32.2 billion, marginally down from $32.9 billion in Q3 2024, reflecting a balance of operational scale and market fluctuations.
The company’s refining segment led the gains, with operating income reaching $1.6 billion, compared to $565 million a year earlier. Refinery throughput averaged 3.1 million barrels per day, with utilisation at 97 percent, setting new records in the Gulf Coast and North Atlantic regions. Ethanol production also grew, averaging 4.6 million gallons per day, while Renewable Diesel faced a $28 million operating loss, reversing prior-year gains.
Valero continues to focus on operational efficiency and strategic projects, including the FCC Unit optimisation at the St. Charles Refinery, slated for H2 2026. The upgrade is designed to boost high-value product output, further improving margins and production flexibility.
Shareholder returns remain a priority, with $1.3 billion returned in Q3 2025 through dividends and buybacks, complementing over $2.6 billion returned year-to-date. Management cites record throughput, segment gains, and a strong balance sheet as proof of the company’s operational discipline and market execution.
The company plans to maintain growth through efficiency improvements and expansion in renewable fuels, reinforcing operational and commercial excellence as central to its long-term strategy.
