Singapore Aerospace Manufacturing Northern Ireland (SAM NI) has completed a £10 million (approximately €11.7 million) expansion at its Portadown facility in Co Armagh, extending its precision engineering and aerospace manufacturing capabilities and taking its total manufacturing footprint to 68,000 sq ft across a site employing approximately 90 people.

The Belfast Telegraph reported that the Portadown business, founded in 1984 as JW Kane Precision Engineering, was acquired by the state-owned Singapore Aerospace Manufacturing Group in 2019 and is ultimately owned by Singaporean state-owned multinational investment vehicle Temasek Holdings.

The expanded facility strengthens SAM NI's capacity to serve international aerospace customers with specialist precision engineering components and sub-contract manufacturing services, reinforcing the site's role within the SAM Group's global manufacturing network.

Following the completion of the expansion, SAM NI is forecasting significant growth in sales over the next 18 months and into 2028, reflecting sustained international customer confidence in its engineering capabilities.

Joel Best, operations director at SAM NI, said: "This is a key moment for SAM NI and reflects not only the strength of our team and business, but the continued confidence our international customers have in our specialist engineering capabilities."

Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly attended the announcement, welcoming the investment as a demonstration of Northern Ireland's strength as a location for high-value precision manufacturing and international aerospace investment.

The expansion reflects a broader pattern of capital investment in Northern Ireland's advanced manufacturing base, as aerospace and precision engineering firms continue to scale capacity in response to growing global demand.
