NTR, an Ireland-based infrastructure investor, and Almac, a Northern Ireland-based pharmaceutical services group, have agreed to adjust the terms of their 2024 corporate power purchase agreement (PPA) to increase the volume of electricity supplied by the 21.6-megawatt Murley wind farm in County Tyrone according to a Renewables Now report.
The wind farm, which began operations in 2024, initially supplied just under 50 per cent of its output to Almac under a long-term PPA. Two years later, the revised agreement raises that share to just under 70 per cent of the wind farm's production. Under the 2024 terms, Almac's share of the output was 34 gigawatt-hours annually.
The increased off-take would help Almac cut carbon emissions linked to electricity consumption at its headquarters in Craigavon and support the expansion of its Northern Ireland operations. The Craigavon campus employs more than 4,000 staff out of a global workforce of 7,800.
Niall Harkin, Executive Director at Almac Group, stated the increased clean power volume allows the company to continue powering almost all operations at its Craigavon site as it expands. "We are delighted to increase our clean power volume which allows us to continue to power almost all operations at our Craigavon site as it expands, with fully certified renewable energy," he said.
Almac has set a target to reduce its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 50 per cent by 2030. The wind farm partnership demonstrates the increasing role of corporate PPAs in supporting operational efficiency whilst enabling organisations to meet sustainability commitments through certified renewable energy sources.
The revised agreement positions both companies to strengthen their renewable energy strategies as demand for clean power continues to increase across pharmaceutical and infrastructure sectors.
