DPD Ireland has announced a €10 million investment in a second distribution hub at Gateway Logistics Park, Newlands Cross, on the Naas Road in Dublin 22, creating more than 200 jobs and deploying Ireland's first automated robotic parcel sorting system, as reported by RTÉ News.
The new facility will deploy 270 autonomous robots to replace traditional conveyor systems, enabling the hub to sort up to 10,000 parcels per hour. The distribution centre is scheduled to become fully operational in October 2026.
The 200 new roles will span operations, driving, and administration. DPD Ireland currently operates a nationwide network of 37 depots and is Ireland's largest parcel delivery network.
Chief executive Des Travers said: "We are delighted to announce this significant investment in our infrastructure and our people. This expansion is a direct result of the 99% service level we consistently deliver to our customers. Their trust and continued support have enabled our growth across all areas of the business. This new hub strongly positions us to meet rising parcel delivery demand and ensures that we continue to provide the high level of service that our customers expect, year-round. It is an exciting step forward for DPD Ireland as we build for the future."
The investment comes as the company reports continued growth across its next-day delivery, logistics services, and Out of Home operations. The new hub will serve as a second major distribution centre complementing DPD Ireland's existing primary facility in Athlone, which can process up to 21,000 parcels per hour.
DPD Ireland is a subsidiary of GeoPost, the parcels and express arm of French postal group La Poste. The Irish business recorded pre-tax profits of €29m in its most recent financial year, with Ireland revenues of €173.55m and operating profits up 14% to €26.63m.
The deployment of 270 autonomous robots at the new hub reflects a broader industry shift toward automation in parcel sorting, as volumes driven by e-commerce growth continue to outpace the capacity of manually operated conveyor systems. Robotic sorting offers higher throughput, reduced error rates, and greater flexibility in handling variable parcel sizes across peak and off-peak periods.
DPD Ireland said the combined investments in infrastructure, technology, and people would strengthen its nationwide network, increase capacity through peak trading periods, and support the continuation of its industry-leading 99% service performance.
